I love St. Patrick’s Day.
Mostly because I’m Irish and Irish families have a way of passing pride for their heritage down from generation to generation, but also because I love any excuse to celebrate.
I’ve tried a lot of tricks through the years to make St. Patrick’s Day fun for my not-so-Irish husband, some of which have been pretty epic fails. (A particularly disastrous batch of green-colored cookies come to mind…) And while St. Patrick’s Day may just represent one giant excuse to drink a lot of green beer for some couples, for this couple, this year, that’s not really an option.
Hey world, guess what?
I’m pregnant!
So this year, I’m on the hunt for a few more meaningful ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as a couple, hold the green beer. (At least until next year, thanks.)
1. Cook up an authentic Irish dinner together
I will admit that corn beef and cabbage is a hard dish to pull off romantically. (The after-effects may sort of kill the mood.) But for a more couple-friendly Irish meal, try an Irish stew with a side of beer bread. Nothing like a meal together to get the soul stirring — and isn’t there something rustic and romantic about a crusty bread and steaming stew?
2. Go out to an Irish pub
Brave the crowds on St. Patty’s Day to hit up a local Irish pub for some comfort food and beer (for those able to drink it). There’s nothing like an authentic Irish vibe to get you in the celebratory mood.
