The belief is that if someone is going to be unfaithful, it’s going to be the man. But that’s never been necessarily true, and science is backing that up.
A recent study by Indiana University found that 20% of both men and women have cheated on their current partners. This is a spike for women, and evens out their numbers with men. According to the research, it comes down to boredom, and the opportunity to cheat. While most men who look for extramarital affairs are attracted to no-strings situations (which is why Ashley Madison was almost all men), women instead tend to prefer at least some form of emotional connection. They don’t hook up online, they meet someone and sparks fly and they make a rash decision.
Because of that, men have an easier time disconnecting from the affair. It’s not uncommon for women who’ve cheated to find themselves entangled with this other person, either mentally or emotionally. But, there’s a bright side. The study also found that happy relationships had, by far, the least amounts of problems. So if you’ve found that special someone, make sure they know how special they are. Otherwise, someone else might find out instead.
